This 70W GaN charger puts a live wattage readout on every port — then hides it behind a screen I could barely read

I wanted this one because of the screen: a 70W GaN charger that reports, port by port, how many watts each device is drawing. It works, and watching it taught me something — my iPhone showed 17W on its own but only 7W once two other devices shared the charger. The problem is the display itself, which is barely visible in normal room light.

Tested context

One session, filmed end to end: the ports and the printed output label, pulling out and retracting the built-in USB-C cable, plugging it into a wall socket, the start-up animation with the room lights off, what happens when you yank it out of the socket mid-charge, finding the touch button, cycling all three display modes, charging an iPhone on its own, charging a Galaxy S26 on its own, then charging a power bank plus both phones at the same time and reading the per-port breakdown, and finally unplugging one device mid-charge to see whether the other readings stayed correct. No long-term use, no thermal measurement, no meter of my own to check the screen's numbers against, and nothing plugged in that draws anywhere near 70W.

Verdict

The concept is genuinely good. A charger that reports live, per port, how much power each device is taking is more useful than it sounds, because it turns a guess into a number. Mine reported an iPhone at 17W on its own, a Galaxy S26 at 19-20W, and — the part I found interesting — that same iPhone dropping to about 7W once a power bank and the Galaxy were sharing the charger. That is 70W being divided, exactly as the printed label says, but I would never have known it was happening without the screen. The rest of the hardware backs it up: the built-in retractable cable is about two feet long with a magnetic head, either USB-C route can take the full 70W on its own, and there is a spare USB-A port as well. The screen is also the biggest flaw. It is too dim — in ordinary room light I could barely read it, and I had to switch the lights off to properly enjoy the start-up animation. A feature you have to squint at is a feature you stop using.

Pros

  • The display breaks the draw down per port, not just a total — you can see which device is taking what
  • Three useful modes on one touch button: total output, per-port breakdown, and elapsed charge time
  • Built-in retractable USB-C cable, about two feet, with a magnetic head — and it can carry the full 70W on its own
  • Small GaN cube with a spare USB-C port and a USB-A port on top of the built-in cable
  • The readout responds when you change the load — unplugging one device zeroed that port and left the other two readings unchanged
  • Holds enough charge internally to keep the screen alive for a moment after you pull it out of the socket

Cons

  • The display is too dim — barely visible in normal room light, which undercuts the entire point of it
  • The touch button is easy to miss — I found it by accident
  • 70W is shared — with three devices on it the iPhone fell from 17W on its own to about 7W, though the Galaxy held at 20W
  • The USB-A port tops out at 18W by the printed label, well below the USB-C routes
  • The screen is fixed to the charger — it does not detach

A while back I showed a charger with a USB-C cable built into it, and people liked that one more than I expected. So when this one turned up — same idea, but with a digital screen on the front — I had to try it. My only real worry was that the screen would be in Chinese.

It isn't. It shows watts, and it shows them per port, which turned out to be the most interesting thing about the whole video.

A retractable cable that lives in the charger

The cable pulls out of the body — about two feet when it's all the way out — and winds back in when you're done. The head is magnetic, too. That built-in cable is the thing people responded to on the last one.

Where the 70 watts actually goes

Alongside the built-in cable there's a spare USB-C port and a USB-A port. The printed output label spells out the rules, and they matter for everything that follows: either USB-C route can deliver the full 70W on its own, one at a time. The USB-A port maxes out at 18W. And if you use more than one at once, the 70W gets divided between them.

That last sentence is the whole review, really. Most chargers make you take it on faith. This one shows you.

The screen is fixed, and it turns on with a little animation

The screen doesn't come off, which for a second I'd hoped it might. Plugged into a wall socket it runs a short start-up animation, and I had to turn the room lights off to properly see it. It's genuinely cute.

There's also a small capacitor in there. When I pulled the charger out of the socket mid-charge, the screen stayed alive for a moment before it faded out, rather than dying instantly.

Then I found the button. There's a small touch-sensitive spot on the front — I hit it by accident. It cycles three modes: elapsed charge time, total watts going out, and the per-port breakdown.

One phone at a time

This is also where the complaint starts. I had to hold the charger up and lean in to read a two-digit number. In normal room light the display is barely visible — I said it out loud in the video and I'll say it again here, because it's the one thing I'd change. A screen this small needs to be bright.

Then the Galaxy S26, which claims super-fast charging and can take somewhere around 45W. The screen showed 19-20W. In fairness the phone was already sitting at roughly 76% battery, so it may simply have been past the fast part of the curve — I can't separate the charger from the phone's own behaviour here.

Three devices, and the number that surprised me

Then I plugged in everything at once: the power bank, the Galaxy and the iPhone, the last one over a USB-A-to-C cable. Total output, around 35W.

Switched to per-port mode and the split came out as 20W to the Galaxy, 8W to the power bank, and about 7W to the iPhone. The same iPhone that had pulled 17W on its own.

I called it weird on camera and it isn't, really — it's the printed label doing exactly what it says, dividing 70W across three ports. But that's the point I keep coming back to: I would never have known it was happening. You'd plug three things in, come back later, and just quietly wonder why your phone wasn't full.

To check the readings weren't nonsense, I pulled the iPhone out mid-charge. That port dropped to zero and the other two numbers stayed where they were. So the per-port readings do respond to what's actually connected.

What I didn't test

I never loaded it properly. I don't own anything that pulls near 70W over USB-C — no laptop in this session — so I never saw it work hard, and I never saw a single device take the full 70W. I also didn't measure it with a meter of my own, which means I'm trusting the charger's own screen for every number in this review. And I didn't run it long enough to say anything about heat or longevity.

Verdict

I want it brighter and I want it to do a bit more. But as a thing to own: it's a 70W GaN charger with a built-in retractable USB-C cable that can carry the whole 70W, two extra ports alongside it, and a display that tells you what every one of them is doing. What a cool concept — and mostly a well-executed one, right up to the moment you try to read it across a room.

Anyone who owns a pile of cables and devices and has never actually known what any of them is drawing. If you like seeing numbers, this is a 70W GaN charger that also tells you what it is handing each device.

Who should skip it

Skip it if you need to read the screen at a glance in normal room light — mine is dim enough that I had to lean in. Skip it too if you are buying it to feed a laptop and two phones at full speed at once; 70W split three ways is not 70W each, and the display will show you how little each device is getting.
